This "jumps out" at me:
1Corinthians 14: 29-35
Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.  If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.  And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.  Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

My take:
Before Paul became Paul and started spreading the Word to the Gentiles, he was Saul, a Jew and a Pharisee who persecuted the followers of Jesus.  In this letter to the Church in Corinth, Paul is instructing Gentiles in the way of the Jewish synagogue.  Men and women would both attend, pray, and prophecy.  However, they did so in separate groups.  Paul is trying to instill order in the way that services take place:  only one person speaking at a time, don't speak in tongues unless there is a translator, and not everyone needs to speak, some should just sit quietly and judge.  The men had their meeting and the women had theirs.  Paul is instructing them that the women should not interrupt the men's meeting to ask questions of their husbands.  Paul doesn't say it, but the men also should not interrupt the women.  At the time, and also today, men and women have different, but equally important, roles within the family.  The primary responsibility of the father/husband is to lead the family in education and devotion to God.  For a man attending synagogue or later church, it was less important to speak in tongues, or prophecy, than it was to listen and learn in order to be a guide for his family.
