Reading for Sunday August 25, 2019Jeremiah 48:2
the renown of Moab is no more Jeremiah 48: 14-15 "How do you say, 'We are heroes and mighty men of war'? The destroyer of Moab and his cities has come up, and the choicest of his young men have gone down to slaughter, declares the King, whose name is the Lord of hosts. Don's take: The words "renown", "heroes", and "mighty men" sound like complimentary words but they are not. Men of renown describes people that we would call strong men, dictators, or even thugs. Mighty men and heroes are people who put themselves first above God. Considering yourself a hero is the kind of pride that goes before the fall.
