This jumped out at me:
Revelation 14: 1 & 4
Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads
It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. These have been redeemed from mankind as firstfruits for God and the Lamb,

My take:
     Jesus came and redeemed all who should believe in Him, but the firstfruits are those that followed Jesus wherever.  The path is narrow.  Strive every day to stay on the path.  When you fall off the path, get back on and strive to stay once again.  The Bible is the instruction manual, and the map, for finding and staying on the path.  Jesus is the Way.  Follow Him.
